By coming to Poland you will also donate to Ukraine through a local Krakow-based charity. Nidaros help Ukraine refugees to settle in Krakow and Malopolska Region, organize classes and activities for kids to get integrated with locals, and also attend school classes. Not only does Kraków has an amazing restaurant scene, from fine dining to street food, but it has something that can't be missed while in the city - its cult Milk Bars. A bar? That serves milk? 🥛 🤔 🥂 Be not mistaken, those nostalgic relics of the past are still popular among locals because of the deliciousness of the simple food served there. And the 'milk' in the name comes from the times when only dairy products were on the menu. Polish cuisine includes a flavorful list of dishes that have been influenced by the country’s rich history and culture. The ex-Socialist Milk Bars that can be found throughout Kraków are a culinary experience that reflects a fusion of culture, politics, and history. The oldest Milk Bar is located in Nowa Huta district - an enormous industrial complex and steelworks, a symbol of industrial Poland and resistance to communist rule. I was looking yesterday for Pierogi ruskie (my favorite dumplings) and could manage in 3rd shop and they were kind of hidden on the shelf-maybe it’s a coincidence? For those who don’t know, the “ruskie” name has nothing to do with Russia country but name of historic region of Rus in south east Poland and south west Ukraine. It is typical polish food. But today the name connects automatically with political situation. I know that some restaurants and bistros changed name already. Maybe better name would be Ukrainskie. Time will tell.
